1930 Phillips 66 Filling Station: Chandler, OK

Hey friend! Welcome back to another post. Today, we’re talking about the Phillips 66 Filling Station in Chandler, Oklahoma. Let’s get started!

*All photos were taken by myself in Chandler, Oklahoma.

This little green building is a 1930 Phillips 66 filling station located in Chandler, Oklahoma.

It was built in the typical type “B” cottage-style that was popular from 1927-1938. This color scheme is what the original building would have looked like. I wish my roof was this colorful!

What I found most interesting upon further research was these stations were built “right-handed” or “left-handed.” This refers to the door placement. There was really no rhyme or reason for this, it depended on the layout of the site.

The pictures below show what the inside of the building looks like today in 2023.

The long, horizontal sign on the front of the Phillips 66 post below reads:

“The Chandler Phillips 66 station is typical of the type “B” cottage-style built by Phillips Petroleum 1927 through 1938.”

It is estimated that over 500 of these stations were built, but only around 66 of them survive in various states of repair or disrepair…

After further research, I actually discovered there are a handful of other filling stations in Oklahoma that I need to go find now! Road trip, anyone?
