Kaitlyn Weldon

Hi there, my name is Kaitlyn. I like to wear a lot of hats literally and figuratively! My passion is telling the history and stories of the American West. I have a Master’s Degree in American history from Oklahoma State University with a focus on women’s history in the American West in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. My favorite topics to research include women’s history, rodeo history, Wild West shows, cowboys, and cowgirls.

The Active Historian” has been my passion project since June 2020. I started this blog as a way to share my research, but it has grown into so much more. I have had several opportunities to work with historians and content creators from across the world sharing my love of Western history and the Western lifestyle. You can follow me on Instagram, @the_active_historian as well. I try to share there weekly and hop on my stories to show you what a day looks like for me!

I was named a member of COWGIRL Magazine‘s 30 Under 30 Class of 2024 and consider this award to be the honor of a lifetime!

When I’m not doing research or writing, you can find me at a museum, rodeo or Professional Bull Riding (PBR) event!

Thanks for taking time to read a little bit about me. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out on my “contact me” page!
