Hey friend! Today, we’re talking about Simpson’s Old Time Museum in Enid, Oklahoma. This place was FULL of Western history! Let’s go talk about some of it.

*All photos were taken by myself at the Simpson’s Old Time Museum in Enid, Oklahoma.

History of Simpson’s Old Time Museum

Simpson’s War Surplus store was founded in 1946 by Ken P. Simpson. In 1978, Simpson’s Mercantile was “the largest independently owned retail outlet in the state of Oklahoma.” (Simpson’s Old Time Museum website)

This store sold a range of products from men’s and women’s Western wear to boots to saddles. They even sold ski equipment!

In 2006, Simpson’s sons Larry and Rick made the choice to close the store. They converted the space into an interior movie set space along with a museum.

Today, you can see Simpson’s Old Time Museum and Skeleton Creek Productions when you visit. All of the interior movie sets are so cool!

A Handful of Pieces on Exhibition

There was so much to see in this museum! I took a few pictures of various things, but know that these pictures don’t even begin to scratch the surface of all the things on display here.

As a historian who focuses on American Western history, this museum had so many pieces that caught my eye. From carriages to wagons to saddles to mounted game to Western memorabilia – there was a little bit of everything.

P.S. Scroll through all of the photos to see a room FULL of dolls. I had never seen so many in one place!

Concluding Thoughts

This museum was FULL of Western history! There was so much to see and I’m really sad that I didn’t get to spend more time here. I’ll definitely be going back to Enid to spend more time at this museum!

TRAVEL TIP: This museum was pretty chilly (I went in the winter) so if you get chilled easily – make sure to pack a warm jacket!

Also, while you’re in Enid – make sure to stop by the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center and say hello to my friends there!

Happy traveling, friend! I’ll talk to ya soon! 🙂
