Hey friend – welcome back to another post! Today, we’re talking about the Land Office historical marker in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Let’s get started!
This historical markers represents the site where 20,000 people filed a claim in the Land Run of 1889. This office was owned by the United States Federal Government.
It also housed the first post office in Oklahoma Territory!
Information on the Historical Marker
“This stone marks the site of the U.S. Land Office where each of 20,000 persons making the ‘historic run of 1889’ had to appear in person and file his claim. This also is the site of the first post office in old Oklahoma.”

Concluding Thoughts
This was another one of the historical markers I walked by when visiting Guthrie. There are historical markers all over town.
I need to go back to Guthrie again to see more of the historical markers. I didn’t have enough time to stop and see most of them because I was only in town for two hours passing through… I went and visited the museums in town while I was there – you can check out my posts about the museums below:

- Carnegie Library

Happy Traveling! I’ll talk to ya soon! 🙂
TRAVEL TIP: I stopped in at Hoboken Coffee when I was in town and thought it was a super cute coffee shop. It’s a pretty popular spot in town and it was decently crowded on a Saturday morning. But if you like coffee, I’d recommend stopping here.
