Oklahoma State Capitol Museum: OKC

Hey, friend! Welcome back to another post. Today, I want to show around the Oklahoma State Capitol Museum inside the Oklahoma capitol building.

History of the Museum

The Oklahoma State Capitol Museum opened to the public in March 2022 as a part of the capitol restoration project. This Museum was curated in partnership with the Oklahoma Historical Society.

There are 13 exhibit cases in the museum with over 125 items on exhibition. Over 20 panels tell the story of the capitol and Oklahoma politics. There are also several audiovisual stations you can interact with!

My favorite piece was the quill pen used by United States President Theodore Roosevelt to sign the Oklahoma Statehood Proclamation! You can see it below.

Concluding Thoughts

I enjoyed popping in this museum while I was at the capitol! I learned a lot about Oklahoma history and loved seeing Roosevelt’s quill pen. I hope you’ll stop by this museum if you’re in Oklahoma City!

TRAVEL TIP: This museum is free to visit and located on the ground floor of the capitol. The Oklahoma Historical Society website states that visitors should park on the South side of the capitol and use the southern entrance.

TRAVEL TIP: The Oklahoma State capitol is one of the stops in the Oklahoma Route 66 Passport. Visit the gift shop on a weekday to get your book stamped!

Happy traveling! I’ll talk to ya soon! 🙂
