Hey, friend! Welcome back to another post. Today, I want to show you the historic marker in Arcadia for one of the stops on Washington Irving’s trip through Oklahoma. Let’s get started!
Historic Marker Transcription
Washington Irving’s Camp
“The Washington Irving Party and a troop of U.S. Rangers encamped on this spot, October 24, 1832. Near here, 1832, Washington Irving hunted wild horses, an exciting event described in his book on his Oklahoma tour as “Ringing the Wild Horse.” In party were H.L. Ellsworth, U.S. Comm., Chas. J. Latrobe, English writer, and Swiss Count, Albert de Portales.”

Visit
This historic marker sits at the corner of Route 66 and Anderson Road in Arcadia. Type in “Washington Irving’s Campsite” into Google Maps for an overview. There isn’t a specific address for this one listed online… It’s just East of Chicken Shack on Route 66 on the Southwest corner of Route 66 and Anderson. I hope this helps!
Happy Traveling, friend! I’ll talk to ya soon 🙂
