Hey, friend! Welcome back to another post. Today, I want to show you around the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Woody Guthrie was an artist who grew up in Okemah, Oklahoma. He used his artistic talents to advocate for social change. He eventually left Oklahoma and would live most of his adult life in New York. He wrote over 3,000 songs throughout his career covering an array of topics. In addition to writing and recording music, he also was a talented visual artist.

Museum History

The Woody Guthrie Center opened on April 27, 2013 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was established in Tulsa rather than Okemah to reach more students and tourists with Woodie Guthrie’s message.

The Woody Guthrie Center is also home to the American Song Archives! There are over 10,000 items in the archive and the collection continues to grow. This includes over 100 of Woody Guthrie’s personal notebooks with his writings.

Concluding Thoughts
